Learning 2.1

Went to 2 new shopping centers. Saw Alvin and the Chipmunks. Good movie.

I am going to try the book a month challenge. We'll see. This month I can cheat and read the book for my book group next month. I'm trying to get a head there a little since I've read this month's book twice. I also want to do something with the Carnival of Infosciences. Maybe even write something that someone may want to submit. We'll see.

Found more new blogs, put a blogroll up from my bloglines, found new sites, including feedblendr, and added new buttons and search engines to firefox.

Also bought an albums worth of mp3s from amazon. It's cool that you can listen to them in Itunes or WMP.

Learning 2.1 continues.

Thing 26 Added a widget from yourminis. It's a cool site with cool widgets. Also added widgets from Flickr and Twitter and banner for a contest Hanson is holding.

Thing 27 Photobucket. I am not going to join Photobucket because I have just gotten all of my photos on to Flickr. But I do look at pictures on there from time to time and would recommend anyone who is just starting out sign up with Photobucket. Also forgot I did something with meez.

Busy Busy Busy

Went to a spring training game with my parents, spent Easter with family and relatives, went to see my brother's favorite jazz band with him and my Mom, and saw Davy Jones (sigh).

I joined Twitter, Ning,and Libraryelf. According to an article in American Libraries I am a blogger rather than a writer and that is fine with me. Good article about Library 2.0 in public libraries here.

One is about addins. I love Firefox addins. I haven't tried IE's yet but will.

The other gaming. I used to love gaming when I was a kid, in Chuck E Cheese', the arcade, on my atari, or trs80. I have a Nintendo and games in my computer but don't get to play as much as I would like. Board games are cool too. I want to play on some of the sites on that page including Runescape. The kids at work are always on it.

Can't wait for Google's version of Power Point to come out this summer.

The new Sephora, Super Target, and Kohls near me are cool.

free vitamins/supplements, a free registered dietician for two years, and i also
get $600/mo. to participate for two years. i'm VERY tall (over 5'9"), so this is
going to be difficult! i'm gaining 10 lbs. to lose my original goal of 20 lbs.,
which will now be 30 lbs. (hey, i want to get back into a size 6 after being a
size 10 for a few years!). to gain those 10 lbs., what do you suggest that i
eat? any "fun" fattening foods that i should try?

Another vacation gone by too quickly

I can't believe that my experiment with google docs worked. Cool!

Today is the last day of my 2 week vacation. I went to my first NFL game, got the house cleaned inside and out, got rid of some things, baked, got the car serviced, saw my family a couple of times, went on a hike in a new place, got out of the house for 3 days, went shopping, did my nails, and downloaded things from itunes. I also switched to blogger beta and (after some trial and error) added to my feed and added labels. I'm glad that I didn't have to switch to layout view as I like my blog the way it is. Of course, the Tigers lost the world series. Oh well.

I played around with technorati. There is a difference in the results you get between the 3 search types. I put together a watchlist and added them to my bloglines. I have also added several other terms from technorati and delicious and flickr to my bloglines. That's cool.

I played around with the different podcast search engines. They're fine. I use itunes mostly for mine but they can help me find some if I need to.

I like yahoo and google videos. I think I like youtube a little better in terms of ease of use though.

Rss feed search engines are ok. I wish they would give the address for websites rss feed though.

I still want to download something from netlibrary sometime.

How could I have forgotten to mention that it is banned books week?

I already have a delicious account. But I understand even better how it works and see how it is a good organizational tool. I created a name tag for my blog with them. Haven't done much with technorati. But I should.

I read Into a new world of librarianship by Michael Stephens. I agree with alot of what he says. The hardest thing for me is not to go for techolust. He even says that it's hard for him too. It takes a lot of work, planning , keeping up with new things, and education of staff and patrons to pull off a library 2.0 library.

I already made my own wiki. But I played around with other wikis and can see how we can use them at work

I already made some files with online applications. I have used some of the sites on this list but I chose frappr to play with since I had never used it. It's a neat map application that is great for adding maps to websites or blogs.

I have been searching youtube since last summer. But I never signed up for an account until last month. I made a favorites page and added 4 videos to it. It's neat you can add videos from there to your blog or web page like this

I added a short one so it won't take long to load. I should play with yahoo and google videos sometime.

A couple of weeks ago I added a book podcast to my bloglines account. I have a few podcasts that I have added to my itunes that I download every once-in-awhile. I want to use odeo someday but will stick with audioblogger for now. There are some great podcasting search engines out there. I need to play around with them more.

We have overdrive at work and have used it and downloaded things from it. But I have played around with netlibrary through a nearby library. I haven't downloaded anything from net library yet though. I hope to soon. I like being able to listen to books on an mp3 player.

Worked 6 days off for 3 days this weekend. Ran errands etc Friday and Saturday. Saw my parents today. Went to a birthday party last Friday and went out to dinner with friends last weekend.

One of the learning 2.0 tasks was to blog about technology. We got new
databases at work a couple of weeks ago. I think out patrons will like them. We
also got ebooks. I downloaded a hopilong cassidy movie for my Mom.

Then it's on to bloglines. It's a great way for me to keep track of my
rss feeds. I added a lot of feeds in the last couple of weeks. I didn't
know about feedster and some of the other rss feed search engines. I also like
mybookmarks to keep my bookmarks with me.

I played around with more image generators. I also went ahead to online word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation production sites.

As I said before I created my LibraryThing account a few weeks ago. I finally figured out how to use rollyo
today.

Week 2 for the Learning 2.0 you have to start a blog. check. So I decided to go ahead to other things (since I am so impatient). I already have a flickr account. But I didn't know about flickr toys. So I played with one and it's on my flickr account and at the beginning of this post. I also made a Yahoo avitar. Which I think counts as a 3rd party image generator

I already also have a bloglines account and have added library and news related blogs (among others). I want to learn more about rss feeds though.

I also jumped ahead and created a LibraryThing and Rollyo account. I added a link to my LibraryThing catalog in the sidebar. I like LibraryThing but have way too many books to catalog them all. So I decided to catalog the books we are reading for my book group at work. I want to add reviews to it sometime. I'm not sure about Rollyo yet. I'll have to play around with it more.

I also already use del.icio.us on my blog. I just started using techorati tags in my last posts. I finally understand del.icio.us. But Technotati I still have to learn about.

That's as far as I'm going to get this time. Youtube is on the last week of the program. I love that site!

I like the new beta versions of yahoo's photos and mail.

I also downloaded Microsoft's Live Writer Beta. It's ok. I still have to learn how to use it. Plus it doesn't allow you to edit your template. Maybe in the future? I like wbloggar but it seems to not be around any longer.

I'm against the Deleting online preditors act as written. We all need to be safe online but I think kids should have access to the things it wants to ban. I think parents should be in charge of what their kids do. They should also be aware of what their kids are doing online.

Work has been keeping me busy. The summer stuff is finally over. School is back on Monday.
I had a great fouth of July weekend.

I can't beleive that mtv has been on the air for 25 years. We only got it in our house in 1983.
I can't beleive pcs are 25 years old. I learned on TRS 80s and Apple IIes.
The Internet is 15 years old. I jumped on in 1995.

I know some about blogs and rss. I just spent some time getting my bloglines account organized. But I don't know much about wikis, podcasts, etc. So I am going to follow along with Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library's Learning 2.0. This weeks lesson it to tell the hardest and the easiest of the 7.5 habits of life long lerners. I hardest would be view problems and challenges. I am better with problems that I run in to with computers than other problems in my life but still. The easiest -play. I love to play with technology.

have public transportation. we do have buses, but they only run from 6am to 9pm
